Message (great phrase), but as the power drops in a smaller turboed car, the ability to push thru the air (and smog in L.A.) at high speeds requires more torque, and that drops off the table with a stock turbo car....so the REAL top speed is limited by the car's ability to push thru that resistance. Since the gears are torque multipliers, they allow you to make that power (torque) to pull to redline (or close), and thus potentially go faster. It doesn't matter as much if you already have that power created by the power output from the engine, the car can already push thru the air resistance and then the gears actually lower the REAL top speed as they lower the MPH at the same previous RPM. I just repeated what ZLover4Life said, and said it with more confusion. Seriously, I hope that makes sense. On my website, I have formulas (or formulea) to calculate speed vs RPM in any given gear if you know your tire diameter. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions about the gears so that I can further confuse the issue. Take care, Mark
